Healthful ideas for Mindful Chefs and Cooks

Thank you for finding my website.

I’m Brenda, life-long foodie, cancer survivor, teacher of chefs and home cooks, and ardent believer in eating food that keeps me healthy.

Because you're here, I already know you care about the quality of nutrition you put in your body and feed to your loved ones. Like me, you may have serious doubts about the nutritional trainwreck that most Americans eat, and often called the Standard American Diet (SAD): too much sugar, salt, and fat, too many processed foods containing chemicals that serve manufacturers instead of consumers. My food strategy: Eat moderately, mostly fresh, local, and minimally cooked veggies. Binge judiciously.

On this website, I have shared the results of decades of personal research and experience teaching cooking classes: dozens of recipes, lots of thoughts about how to improve on the SAD and use food to promote health instead of letting bad eating habits send you and yours and me and mine down the costly rabbit hole of chemical medicines and heroic medical procedures usually taken too late, after the damage is done.

I hope you'll join me . . . and EAT YOUR VEGGIES!

Brenda in Costa Rica

Here I am in Costa Rica, but most days you'll find me in my garden in Walla Walla. It's summer here, and my vegetables are thriving alongside Michael's peppers. I would love to hear from you wherever you are about how you're enriching your family's diet.

I started this site many years ago in response to my experiences surviving a health emergency. As an important part of my recovery, I started eating the best, freshest, most local, chemical-free food I could find. I discovered I could re-energize and heal myself from the inside out. An enthusiast, I seldom do things halfway, so I learned everything I could about authentic food preparation – I took courses, and eventually became a teacher. Today, I am not just a survivor, but a thriver . . . and I attribute this almost entirely to the dramatic changes I made in my diet.

Along with the wisdom, research, recipes, experience, and discovery we post on this website, Rawsome Creations developed and marketed tools for preparing vegetable based meals and dishes that even the hungriest carnivores enjoy. We are pleased to see that our inventions have entered the mainstream, and have led to market innovations streamlining healthy kitchens everywhere.

Life continues to show us vividly that nothing is static; there is always new growth and opportunity wherever we look.
Like seasons in my garden, the heartbeat of an enterprise changes with time. Rawsome Creations' manufacturing activities enjoyed a wonderful run, but now the products we pioneered have become mainstream, and we can refocus on our concern with the SAD. The knowledge that eating healthily enhances lives has not gained as much attention as we think it should. (Mickey D's thrives – what's up with that?) That's why we think there's still work to be done and have preserved this website. I am so glad you here to share!

Building the manufacturing side of Rawsome Creations' business from scratch has been thrilling: wonderful cross-cultural relationships with my production team and your feedback and encouragement have given me abundant joy. I will miss the day-to-day contact with my loyal customers, your boundless ingenuity, and your willingness to help me foster the charities that our sales supported. I am grateful you welcomed my kitchen tools into your home, and truly appreciate all of you.
